Homeland, Maryland Remodel
This homeowner was downsizing and also merging another family household into one dwelling, this can create challenging design needs. Additionally, the homeowner did not want to add additional square footage to the existing home. The solution was quite simple, create a sorority house. The grandmother takes the main floor, due to her wisdom and seniority, mom takes the lower level suite, with the hope of some sunlight and the youngest of the three generations takes the second floor, having the benefit of two bedrooms and a full bath. This is your basic three story gut and redo, from top to bottom, but maintaining the houses’ original curb appeal.
What was done to update the home?
Wesley Finnerty, the interior designer on this project, chose to reside the exterior with Hardi Plank siding, and for energy efficiency new Marvin, Integrity windows and ThermaTru exterior doors were installed. The new maintenance free deck was created with Azek Composite decking in Acacia and purchased at 84 Lumber and the front entry was enhanced with a new walk created in blue stone.
Owings Brothers then gutted the interior of the home and completely recreated the living space you see now designed by Melville Thomas Architects. The flooring for the first floor was redone in Cumberland 3 ¼” Select Red Oak bringing continuity throughout. The first floor study book case and all the built-ins throughout the 1st and 2nd floor of the house, including the 2nd floor den and the grandmother’s library, were fabricated by Marble Designs.
The kitchen was updated with beautiful, Imperial, Koch Cabinets boasting full overlay doors in Oyster, as well as, engineered stone counter tops, Darlington, by Cambria purchased and installed by Rock Tops Fabrication in Owings Mills. All the brushed satin nickel knobs and pulls in the kitchen and on the vanities in the bathrooms are from Top Knobs and were supplied by Owings Design Studio where they have an extensive selection from which to choose. The 36” apron sink is made by White Haven and the faucet in the kitchen and all plumbing fixtures throughout the house are made by Kohler in brushed nickel and were purchased through Thomas Somerville in Owings Mills. GE Monogram & Café appliances were chosen and obtained through Appliance Distributors, Linthicum Maryland.
The quality of workmanship is excellent and the job was perfect! Debbie F.
Lastly, each bathroom shower was tiled in Marmol Venatino Honed engineered stone in various sizes 3” x 12” and 12” x 24”tiles. Basketweave Carrera Bard Honed tiles were used for all the bathroom flooring and all tile was purchased through Chesapeake Tile & Marble. All the cabinetry in this updated home was selected through Owings Design Studio in Eldersburg, Maryland where they showcase several national cabinet lines. In the bathrooms & laundry 6 Square, painted white cabinets were chosen and in the basement living space 6 Square Maple Spice was installed Owings Brothers Contracting has a new Kitchen & Bath Design Studio and designers on staff to help you create the home you have always desired.
