Expanded and Remodeled Kitchen

This Ellicott City expanded and remodeled kitchen transformed a standard 1980s layout into a bright, open space designed for modern living and effortless entertaining. By removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room, we completely reimagined the floor plan, creating a seamless flow that feels both expansive and inviting. What was once a series of separated rooms is now a connected, light-filled hub where cooking, dining, and gathering naturally come together.

The design strikes a balance between modern sophistication and timeless appeal. Clean lines and thoughtful material selections give the space a fresh, updated look, while classic finishes ensure it will feel relevant for years to come. Every choice was made with longevity in mind, creating a kitchen that feels current without chasing trends.

A defining feature of the space is the stunning copper range hood, which became the inspiration for the overall design. The Young family fell in love with its warmth and character, and it quickly became the focal point of the room. To complement it, we thoughtfully incorporated champagne bronze finishes throughout the space. Rather than matching metals exactly, we embraced the richness that comes from mixing finishes. Light fixtures, cabinet hardware, and accessories were carefully selected to blend copper and champagne bronze in a cohesive, intentional way. The result is layered and elegant, with just the right amount of contrast to add depth and interest.

Drop Down Kitchen Island

Functionality was just as important as aesthetics. The Young family loves to host, and ample seating was a top priority. To accommodate gatherings without overwhelming the space, we designed a multifunctional island featuring a drop-down dining table extension. This clever addition maximizes seating when entertaining, while maintaining an open and efficient footprint for everyday use. The island now serves as the heart of the home—perfect for casual breakfasts, homework sessions, or lively dinner parties with friends.

The newly opened layout provides better sightlines and connections between spaces, making it easier for the family to interact with guests while preparing meals. Storage was also carefully considered to support their lifestyle, ensuring everything has its place without sacrificing the clean, streamlined aesthetic.

This remodel is a testament to how thoughtful design can completely transform a home. By opening the floor plan, blending warm metallic finishes, and prioritizing flexible seating, we created a kitchen that reflects the Young family’s personality and enhances the way they live. The result is a welcoming, functional, and beautifully balanced space that feels both elevated and comfortably lived-in—a true gathering place at the center of their home.
