Exterior Remodel Adds Wow Factor
Owners live in a prestigious neighborhood with established homes on ample acreage, built in the late 1970’s. Loving their environment they wanted to update and distinguish their home from the rest and chose an exterior makeover. They were a great fit for Owings Design/Build Services and so, architect, Laurie Stubb began drawings for this amazing transformation. It was important to this homeowner that the products used on their home would be maintenance free, but have the look of real wood and be aesthetically pleasing. Additionally, the owners felt that the house needed more balance from the curb and were interested in adding a screened porch and some exterior architectural features. This remodel also boasts a first floor remodeled kitchen and family room.
The front entry was of the utmost importance to the owners. They wanted it to stand out and be a focal point of the makeover. The front porch was redesigned and a brick stair and landing was created with a bluestone walkway. The most noteworthy change to the entryway was the new barrel vault, standing seam metal roof with beaded tongue and groove underside. Bold columns were added to complete this most impressive look. Since the homeowner wanted to keep an additional entry way with a direct connection to the kitchen, which is also on the front of the house, we had to craft a look that would be beautiful, but would not compete with the front entryway. A standing seam metal roof was chosen for continuity, as were columns, but a shed roof adorns this entry, which also offers a brick porch that can be utilized for enjoying a cup of tea or a place to leave boots after working in the garden.
The homeowner’s investment in the exterior look and overall continuity of design and function adds an immeasurable value. The community has large homes on lush ample lots making this a desirable neighborhood. The maintenance free materials increases the home’s value and makes it attractive to buyers should the homeowner wish to sell and offers easy upkeep for this busy, growing family.
