Farmhouse Kitchen

This family of four renovated a 1900s farmhouse in rural Carroll County.  The home now vaguely resembles the original on the exterior but the interior has been completely gutted and renovated.  They added a two-story addition comprised of a family room, kitchen, and master suite to the rear of the home.

Undergoing its second kitchen renovation since the late ’90s the owners have kept with the farmhouse style by creating a traditional kitchen design and open floor plan.  The first renovated kitchen consisted of dark cherry cabinets with a sage green wood-paneled backsplash.  The cooktop rested on the island which included a tile countertop. Though still very functional the couple decided to design a more updated kitchen desiring light and bright look and feel.

The beautiful new traditional kitchen design made few changes to the layout.  The major design change was the removal of a cabinet with a desk that was popular in the ’90s to create space for a fabulous new stainless side by side SubZero refrigerator.

Our homeowner’s new traditional kitchen design incorporated custom, inset, raised panel Dura Supreme cabinetry with exposed hinges. Hand-distressed in cream with a mocha glaze finish brings a light reflective quality to the remodeled kitchen.  Brushed nickel cabinet hardware coordinates with the gourmet stainless steel appliances.  Adding to the new look of this kitchen is a resilient Caesarstone polished concrete countertop on surrounding cabinets.  However, stealing the show is the rare, exotic Calcutta Gold marble island countertop.  This beautiful piece of stone is the central focus of the kitchen and shows off beautifully!

One of Kind Kitchen Design

Making this farmhouse kitchen very elegant is the imported from Italy hand-painted Terra Cotta tiles that comprise the counter to ceiling backsplash.  The brick-colored stone floor was kept from the first remodel giving the new kitchen design a bit of a rustic look in keeping with its Carroll County rural surroundings.  An amazing transformation and so bright and light expanding the kitchen to the natural eye without changing the footprint!
