Expanded Kitchen Within The Footprint

This homeowner wanted a larger kitchen with gourmet appliances for cooking up their favorite recipes. The architect was able to find all the space they needed without adding an inch to the footprint of the home.  How?  The 3rd bay of the garage was incorporated into the layout of the mudroom, laundry room, pantry and kitchen reconfiguration.

View details and photos of this in the December issue of Baltimore Magazine.

What they have now is a great design with access to the house through the new mudroom in lieu of the center of the kitchen.  New cabinets grace the wall with an appliance garage and a commercial grade GE Monogram 48″cook stove/oven and refrigerator.    They incorporated a 10′ island and replaced the smaller island, turning it in the opposite direction.  The wall to the dining room was removed and the area was created into an eating area and beverage center.  The new dining room, twice the size of the old, was added by removing a knee wall separating the breakfast area that was adjacent to the kitchen, to make the kitchen an open, expansive space.

The only exterior change was a large window in the kitchen that was replaced with a shorter, smaller version to allow for an extension of cabinets and counter.

The kitchen was painted and the floors refinished in the dining room and kitchen.  New floors laid in the hall, mudroom, drop zone, powder room, laundry and pantry.  New shelving, cabinets and vanity in powder room were also included.  Truly an interior first floor remodel that completely changes the look, feel and function of the space.
