Our clients lived in a neighborhood where they were close to schools, shopping, and friends, but desired to update the kitchen. This home, built in 1962 in a Baltimore suburban neighborhood and situated on an acre of land, offered great potential, especially with its surrounding landscape and effortless access to all conveniences. The homeowners contacted us to design and remodel a modern kitchen as one of the first projects.
Keeping with the light and bright look, they opted for white perimeter cabinets, but added ebony black cabinetry for the island and buffet to coordinate and add interest. Previously, the window above the sink had small single panes, as did the slider in the breakfast area. Choosing a more contemporary look, they opted for three full clear pane windows with black casing inside and out. The slider was removed to allow for expansion of the kitchen cabinetry. The peninsula that divided the room was removed, and the new design incorporated a large island.

Additionally, the plain white countertops were replaced with wildly modern black and white granite, which was also installed as the backsplash. Modern pendants shed light on the new island, and recessed lights were strategically placed to provide the necessary task lighting throughout the room. The latest plumbing and lighting fixtures were selected in champagne bronze, and the cabinet hardware in honey bronze, a very popular choice today.

Lastly, the additional square footage of the breakfast area allowed for the addition of a new laundry and mud room for this young and growing family.
