Open Floor Plan Accessibility
This homeowner decided it was time to downsize her home to a smart condominium in an upscale neighborhood. With her children grown and on their own she didn’t feel she needed a large home, especially with several floors to climb. She was willing to pare down but still wanted her new home to include the look and feel of nature around her. Choosing retirement condo living was just the thing! Located in Baltimore County gives them access to favorite shops and restaurants and is near family.
The location was fabulous but the floorplan needed tweaking. A wall closed off the kitchen and dining area from the view of the large trees just outside her wall of windows. The foyer also was closed off from the kitchen and living area and made the interior space seem smaller than it really is. See the before images below:
The retirement condominium was dated and needed a facelift. Our homeowner is chic with an eye for the glamorous. After removing the walls the space became an open palette for design. We kept the walls and floors in a neutral color to show off her interesting furniture pieces and artwork. Owings Design Team kept the beauty of nature outside as their focal point and this condominium gives the impression you are living in the trees. Having a balcony that is accessible from the bedroom and the living room creates a sense that you are living amongst nature though just miles from the city.
Black and Gold Condo Kitchen
This beautiful new kitchen is on the cutting edge of design with modern Nero Matte Belmont kitchen cabinets sporting Richelieu Champagne Bronze hardware. The hardware is showy against the matte black cabinets and adds just the right amount of bling. We didn’t change the laundry doors you see in front of the island. They are the original flat doors but we applied wood molding and freshly painted them white adding more of the gold-tone hardware so they look custom.
The beauty mark for this kitchen remodel is the backsplash behind the cooktop. A marble mosaic with inlaid bronze brings even more glamor to our condominium kitchen expressing the client’s exquisite taste and style. Breathtaking!
Condo Master Bathroom
The master bathroom was so very dated and needed to be completely remodeled. There are some limitations when remodeling a condo and that includes the inability to move water and sewage lines. No problem! Our client’s newly renovated bathroom is a Pygmalion story. All of the tiles were replaced as were the cabinets, tops, and fixtures. Belmont high gloss cabinetry with Borghini Crystal quartz vanity tops updated the bathroom with a modern look. Taking the existing linen closet door off and installing open shelving adds a more contemporary feel.
Removal of the existing 5′ tub/shower combination allowed us to create a beautiful walk-in shower enabling our clients’ easy access as they age. Floor-to-ceiling marble tile was installed in the shower on walls and floors. A focal wall was included of Silver Mini Hex adding a lush and dramatic element. Barn doors are all the rage and that includes in the bathroom. Beautiful chrome hardware with an easy glide glass panel allows for the beauty of the tile to be seen. Away with the old-fashioned shower curtain!
All in all this retirement condo living renovation was a successful transformation from a 1988 high-rise condo to the new modern retirement living space. Beautiful and chic would describe all the selections chosen.
