First Floor Expansion
This growing family had a beautiful home on a secluded lot in a much sought-after neighborhood. The home was built in the 1980s and had many great amenities but lacked the space needed in the kitchen and family room. They chose the first-floor expansion at the rear of the home and add a few extra feet. A new outdoor living space was included in the design and offered a much-expanded area outdoors for enjoying over three acres and a wooded view.
The new outdoor living space is accessed by the family room and kitchen open concept space. This area was expanded by bumping out the rear of the home offering our clients a very roomy kitchen and eating area. Now they can visit with friends and family while preparing the meal and keep an eye on the children. Opening the main family space such as the kitchen and family room is very popular with our design-build clients. Often creating a more open floor plan gives the area a larger look when only a wall or two is removed. In the case of our clients in this design, a few square feet were added to expand the first floor. New Expanded Kitchen
The beauty of this first-floor expansion is the bright, airy, and open kitchen with a large center island. Previously the client had a smaller closed-in kitchen with a peninsula that restricted moving from the prep area and the serving and eating area. The new kitchen design offers a larger eating area and a seated island that is perfect for meal prep and catching up with family news.
What a difference this design-build remodel offers this growing family. Previously the space was dark and cramped and now they can enjoy a meal together with an expanded eating area on the island. The family room is a part of the overall space giving the room an even more spacious look and feel. What a few added feet can do!
Butler’s Pantry Added
Expanding the kitchen storage and countertops was paramount. On the wall that connects the dining area and the meal prep area is a bank of cabinets a homeowners’ dream! Not only were cabinets added in this area but a new Butlers Pantry was included in the design with even more cabinets and counter space. The lighted upper cabinets lend to the light and airy feel. Tucked in behind the kitchen wall with the stove and oven is a walk-in pantry adding even more storage. Bringing this kitchen remodeling project to a “10”!
Laundry – Mud Room
We can wrap this first-floor expansion up by adding a laundry – mud room. This space is the best for organization and keeping the mess that always comes with the outdoors in one space. Bookbags, shoes, boots, and coats are all kept away from the central living space. What could be better than to include a washer and dryer right where you need them? Off with the dirty clothes and into the wash making the job of maintaining a family so much easier.
