Kitchen Remodel
These empty-nesters were thinking about the future as they planned this home remodeling project. Their children were grown and gone, married or getting married and living out of state. Our homeowners decided to create an open floor plan that would be conducive for large family gatherings as their family was expanding. Also, there was the motivation of a soon coming bridal shower to be hosted for their son and his fiance. They needed more open space and this new kitchen bump out addition was perfect for the upcoming event.
Our Design-Build team helped to plan a dining and kitchen bump-out addition with a new screened porch and deck. Working together with our homeowner the exterior and interior space was crafted to reflect their personal style and budget. The formal living room was rarely in use, so the decision was made to create a new dining room in that space and expand the kitchen to incorporate the existing dining room. By removing the dining room wall the newly remodeled area gained an additional 150 square feet! Then by installing the 30′ x 6′ bump-out addition more width was added to the kitchen which enabled them to incorporate the large new island. The island increased workspace for the cook of the family and also adds the much-needed extra storage desired.
In addition to an expansive family gathering space, this kitchen bump out addition also allows for the baker of the home to spread out on the new island to make his famous baked treats. Known as the Cookie Man at a local university, he bakes for a living and comes from a long line of bakers. His family still owns a bakery in the mid-west and he is carrying on the family tradition locally in Maryland. The new kitchen remodel affords him the space needed to prepare his scrumptious baked goods and still allow him to mingle with friends and family as they watch the magic.
The family chose Kitchenaid appliances such as the 30″ slide-in range and oven and the 30″ wall oven built into the new island where it is handy for removing cookie sheets for cooling. The black painted island and pearl painted perimeter cabinets from Koch Cabinetry offer an interesting black and white theme and boasts beautiful Venetian Gold granite countertops. The appliances include a Kitchenaid 22′ French door refrigerator, glass front beverage cooler and new microwave. The homeowner says one of his favorite additions to his new kitchen is the beverage center which stores everything in once place, making entertaining a breeze!
Screened Porch and Deck
Let’s not forget the added living space created by the screened porch and deck great for al fresco dining. The old wooden deck was removed and a new screened porch and deck was designed and built with maintenance-free Trex in pebble gray. Access to this beautiful outdoor space is through a new French Door in the family room which is open to the newly remodeled kitchen and dining area. A beautifully landscaped yard is the backdrop for outdoor entertaining with family and friends making this bump out addition a great asset to family life while increasing the value of their home.
