Rustic Kitchen Renovation

“Sally’s Baking Addiction” Remodel

Our homeowners found a gem of a home with the rustic look they were crazy about.  The only drawback: the beautiful rustic stained wood beams and ceiling didn’t fill the need for a more light and bright kitchen. Sally has a very popular business, “Sally’s Baking Addiction” that requires her to photograph elements of her recipe instructions for her many fans.   The need for a brighter, lighter gourmet kitchen required a redesign of this space.

This kitchen remodel offers a blend of new with the old, which creates a dramatic difference.  The need for more storage space called for cabinetry to the ceiling and the removal of the bulkhead.  To offer additional lighting, recessed lights were incorporated by covering the wood beam ceiling in drywall. Cambria counter tops in Windermere were also an addition to an overall lighter look replacing the darker tan/brown counter surfaces and the island was expanded by quite a bit replacing the old wood top with Cambria.

The transitional look and feel of the remodel was further enhanced with the Daltile ceramic tile back splash in Tremiti Sand and the Koch Cabinetry in Pearl, some with glass fronts.  In keeping with the rustic appeal Metropolitan pendants were chosen from the “Walt Disney Collection” and a 36″ Large, Round Front, Star Motif, Copper Farmhouse Sink, a definite focal piece.

The need for top line appliances in this gourmet kitchen was to aid Sally’s baking experimentation and cookbook writing and included Thermador conventional ovens with convection and a separate over-sized refrigerator and freezer. (These appliances were separated by an existing wood beam.)

The dining room kept the same rustic feel, and as you can see in the photo below, the beverage center is the divider between the remodeled and original design.

Final outcome: a beautiful transformation and yet a perfect blend new with old!
